PE and Sport Premium

The PE and sport premium funding has had a positive and sustainable impact on the quality of PE, school sport and physical activity at Acomb Primary School. The total grant allocation for 2024–2025 was £18,680, of which £18,843.50 was spent, ensuring that all available funding directly supported staff development and pupil outcomes. A significant focus was placed on enhancing the confidence, knowledge and skills of staff in teaching PE through targeted professional development. This included £975.50 invested in inter-school development sessions and £13,300 in external coaching to build teachers’ confidence and competence. As a result, PE provision has strengthened, while the overall profile of PE and sport across the school has been raised as part of whole-school improvement.

The funding has also had a clear and measurable impact on pupils’ engagement, enjoyment and achievement in PE and sport. Internal activities received £2,790, including spending on equipment, resources and extra-curricular opportunities, while £1,778 supported external activities such as inter-school competitions and the School Games Organiser network. These investments have led to an increase in pupil participation in extracurricular clubs and competitive sport, ensuring that more children have the chance to be active and succeed. Provision for targeted groups has also improved, with a focus on access for girls, disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND. Swimming outcomes remain strong, with 90% of Year 6 pupils able to swim competently and perform safe self-rescue. The school’s approach to sustainability, focusing on staff training, equipment investment and community partnerships, aims to ensure that these improvements continue to have a lasting impact.
